I recall the first time I made this was for a Halloween potluck lunch at the company I worked for in Des Moines, Iowa. We were supposed to bring scary things to eat and I thought the name and consistency of this dessert was extremely appropriate. There were two co-workers in particular who could not stop eating it, that is... after the "gross" factor. I must admit even I who love this recipe have no idea how those two were able to eat so much of Baba de Camelo in one day as it is pretty filling and sweet.
INGREDIENTS
1 can of sweet condensed milk6 eggs
DIRECTIONS
- Fill a pressure cooker with water
- Place the can of sweet condensed milk unopened
- Cook it for about 45 minutes (if you do not have a pressure cooker you can use a normal pan but it will take about 2 hours)
- Remove all water and can
- Let the can cool off for about 5 minutes
- Meanwhile beat the egg whites to peak
- Carefully open the can and place the condensed milk in a large bowl
- Add one egg yolk at the time and mix well
- Add the egg whites a little at the time and keep on folding the cream
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or place it in the freezer
