Only today did I find out there was such as thing as National Chocolate Cake day. Well my friends, today is the day! So let's get cooking and eat some chocolate cake. What a better excuse can we ever find for such delight?
Did you know today is also the birthday of Mozart? So perhaps we should create a German Chocolate cake. Anyone has any good recipes out there?
Now I am going through the net trying to figure out why is it that January 27th is National Chocolate Cake day and I yet have to find out any explanation. May that have been yet another Hallmark invention to sell more cards? Does anyone out there know?
Well I am a big fan of a site called halfhourmeals.com and I found a cake I will be making tonight. I do not have kailhua liquor so I will substitute it for Port wine. I will post photos and how it comes out later on. Here is the link to Pierre's Famous Chocolate Cake!

I am SO glad I know this! I rarely need a reason to eat cake, but I have been behaving myself since the holidays ended. All bets are off tonight!
I feel very special you have chosen my chocolate cake recipe to celebrate today ! Thank you so much for the honor.
I am so happy it turned out good. Kahlua liquor is not necessary. It just happened that I felt like adding alcohol to my batter that day...ah ah...I usually spike the flavor with orange rind though. Orange/chocolate=great combo. How did the port wine addition turn out, flavorwise ? Try marsala wine next time, it adds a subtle nutty flavor to desserts.
I also got a pudding variation made from chocolate cake on my blog (http://pierreskitchen.blogspot.com/2009/12/chocolate-cake-pudding.html). I made it for an art opening and people raved about it!
Alright I am adding you to my dashboard so I can read more of your wordly adventures :)
Cheers,
Pierre.
Thanks Pierre for your comments. I did enjoy adding the Port wine, it gave it a little sweet taste. I will definitely try your other recommendations. I always shy away from desserts as they are not my strength, but lately have been opening my horizons. One thing I used to love making was choux filled with cream and topped with melted chocolate. Do check out and try my sister's chocolate mousse. It is divine!
